The Generation Xchange (GenX) program places retired adults in elementary school classrooms across Los Angeles to support stronger academic outcomes for students, increase health and wellness outcomes for the volunteers, and enhance school-community relationships.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Adults 50+
- Retired with no intention to return to work
- Can volunteer 10 hours/week
- Can pass standard GenX assessment
- Can complete a LAUSD background check, fingerprinting and TB test
Location
10 LAUSD elementary schools across South Los Angeles
Compensation
A monthly stipend of $200 is provided if volunteers complete the required 10hr/week commitment in their classroom.

The Generation Xchange (GenX) study is focused on two goals - to recruit older adults to support positive educational outcomes for elementary school children and to improve volunteers' own health and well-being.
GenX has been active in LAUSD schools since 2014. Over the last decade, GenX volunteers report increased positive well-being, a sense of purpose, and improved physical health. Our classrooms have seen increased reading and math scores, and improved behavioral outcomes in students.
